Ministry Of Healing at Holy Apostles
What is Christian Healing?
“Christian healing is God meeting you at your point of need.” (Bishop Morris Maddocks)
Healing was an essential part of Christ’s ministry, (Matthew 4.v.23) – a ministry which he passed on to the Church.
Today, Christ is still our healer as he meets with us in the power of the Holy Spirit, bringing healing and wholeness to body, mind and spirit.
The Church believes that all true healing is of God and cooperates with the medical professions to bring healing to the whole person.
What does Christian healing offer?
- Forgiveness of sin
- Inner healing of emotional problems eg resentment, anxiety, hurts of the past, healing of memories etc.
- Physical healing
Who offers it?
Christ is the healer and through his Holy Spirit the Church offers this ministry in his name. Both clergy and lay people who are called to and trained in this ministry are available. This ministry is confidential, within certain limits.
The Church in this diocese follows the guidelines for Christian healing as set out in “A Time to Heal”, a report for the House of Bishops on the Healing Ministry, published in 2000.
How is it offered?
At Holy Apostles, Christ’s healing is offered through:-
- Holy Communion Services
(confession and forgiveness of our sins, hearing God’s Word, the prayers, receiving Christ in bread and wine and prayer for individuals after the service).
- Services of Healing Prayer
- Individual ministry with healing prayer
All these may include the laying on of hands, anointing with oil, confession and forgiveness.
Could it be for me?
“Are any among you sick? They should call for the elders of the church and have them pray over them, anointing them with oil in the name of the Lord. The prayer of faith will save the sick.” (James 5: 14-15)
If you are in need, help is available. Healing is often a process rather than a one off event. It may take time, it may not happen in the way we expect. But God hears us – he knows us and our deepest needs.
Services of Healing Prayer at Holy Apostles
These services are quiet and reflective with sensitive music and the opportunity for healing prayer ministry if desired. You are welcome to receive prayer for yourself or to request prayer for someone for whom you are concerned. Or you may just want to come and have space and time in a peaceful, worshipful and prayerful setting.
The services are held in church on the 3rd Sunday of the month at 6.30 pm. Please check the weekly noticesheets and calendar for any exceptions.
